North Callaway R-1 will celebrate a major milestone in the construction of its new elementary school- "Topping Out". The "Topping Out" tradition marks the placement of the final structural beam in a building project. Students, staff, community members, and project partners will have the opportunity to sign the last steel beam before it is lifted into place, symbolizing the community's shared commitment to education and the future ot its children.

"This event represents more than steel and concrete, " said Superintendent Dr. Kenya Thompson. "It reflects the strong support of our community and the promise of new opportunities for our students."

The new elementary school, scheduled to open for the 2026-27 school year, will feature modern learning spaces, upgraded safety features, and house the T-Bird Learning Center. Once complete, it will provide a state -of -the- art learning center for K-5 students.

All community members are invited to sign the final beam and plant their names in the rafters of the new building.
