We want to share an important update regarding our Before- and After-School Program for the upcoming school year.

Recently, the District was notified that our application for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant was not selected for funding. While we are appealing that decision, we are pleased to share that North Callaway was awarded the SAC grant, which will allow us to continue offering before- and after-school care for students in grades K–6.

The SAC grant provides funding for the next three years and will allow us to offer:

  • Before-School Care: 7:00–8:00 a.m.

  • After-School Care: 4:00–6:00 p.m.

  • Available for: Students in grades K–6

As we transition to this new grant, there are a few important changes families should be aware of. Unlike the previous grant, the SAC grant does not provide funding for student transportation. Families will be responsible for arranging transportation to and from the program.

Our staff is currently finalizing program details, including enrollment procedures, staffing, and program handbooks. These plans will be presented to the North Callaway Board of Education on August 20, 2026, after which we will share additional information regarding registration and program expectations.

At this time, here is what we know:

  • The Before- and After-School Program will continue for students in grades K–6.

  • Program hours will be 7:00–8:00 a.m. and 4:00–6:00 p.m.

  • Transportation will not be provided through the grant.

We are still working to determine:

  • Student enrollment capacity.

  • Final staffing and program details.

  • The outcome of our appeal for the 21st Century grant.

We understand that dependable childcare is an important resource for many of our families. Although this funding change requires some adjustments, we are grateful to continue offering this valuable program to our students. We appreciate your patience as we complete the planning process and will communicate additional details as soon as they become available.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for trusting North Callaway R-I School District with your children.
